ABOUT STAND ALONE PIECES
Circus Ring
Winner of the 2023 Pineridge Arts Council, Lou Schnippering Award, “Circus Ring” was described as, “Apply titled, the joyful, energetic mark making combined with the play of colours truly symbolize the atmosphere of a circus. With this much activity, you would think that that piece would succumb to chaos. The artist however has skillfully varied the surface texture and layered colours to allow us to drift through an imaginary space. Lisa describes this piece as inspired by forest fires and circus adventures on a getaway in Montreal.”
Ponder
Ponder took three years to arrive at full completion and was inspired by Town’s time spent in Northern Ontario. During this time, Town was snowshoeing, sitting by a real fire, watching hockey, and reflecting about the luxury of living in a place like Canada. During this time, struggles with nationalism, leadership, policies, and environmental concerns were also considered. If you look at the piece head on, it’s sleek, like ice. If you look at it from other angles, it’s intentionally pockmarked, shows fault lines, cracks, and in spots, it’s melting.
The original title was “Pond Skate” and later shifted to “Ponder” reflective of the artist’s experiences, perceptions, and relationship with the piece. The original release date was between National Indigenous People’s Day and Canada Day and was first shown at the Station Gallery in Whitby, Ontario, July 2026.
